Restorative Outdoor Experiences for Veterans
Our Programs
At Timber and Valor, hunting is the vehicle, but connection, purpose, and community are the mission.
Our Hunt Camps bring veterans together in the outdoors for meaningful experiences centered on hunting, mentorship, family, and genuine relationships. While the hunt may last a few days, the support and friendships are designed to endure long after camp ends.
Our inaugural Hunt Camps are taking place outside Townsend, Montana:
Each camp will include 10 veteran hunters, along with mentors, staff, and volunteers who help create a supportive and memorable experience. We intend to keep our groups small whenever possible. Smaller camps allow veterans to build genuine relationships, receive meaningful one-on-one support, and feel connected to a community that understands them.
Veterans attend at no cost. Through partnerships and donor support, Timber and Valor works to cover camp expenses, meals, lodging or camping accommodations, hunting support, equipment when needed, and the overall experience.
As we grow, we hope to offer a variety of hunting and outdoor opportunities throughout the year, in locations in Montana and across the country. Future hunt opportunities may include elk, deer, turkey, waterfowl, upland birds, and other outdoor experiences shaped by available partnerships, locations, seasons, and the needs of participating veterans.
Mentorship That Continues After Camp
After camp, veterans transition into Rally Point, our 12-week mentorship program. Rally Point continues the relationships built at camp through connection, accountability, encouragement, and support.
While at the Hunt Camp, we pair veterans with mentors who understand military culture and share similar military backgrounds, experiences, or MOSs. That shared understanding can help break down barriers and create an immediate sense of trust.
Mentorship at Timber and Valor doesn’t involve scheduled group therapy sessions. It happens naturally, in a hunting blind, on a mountain trail, over coffee, during lunch, around the dinner table, or beside the campfire. Our goal is to create an environment where veterans can let their guard down, build authentic friendships, and know they are surrounded by people who understand them.
We developed our 12 Rally Points to provide structure and purpose throughout the mentorship experience. These guide veterans and mentors as they continue building connection and accountability together.
At the heart of Rally Point is a simple promise: after Timber and Valor, every veteran should know there is someone they can call, and a community they still belong to.
There is no rigid schedule at Timber and Valor. Each day is shaped by the weather, hunting conditions, and the needs of the group. Our camps are intentionally relaxed and authentic, with time for hunting, rest, conversation, and connection.
The day begins early with grab-and-go breakfast and coffee before hunters head into the field. Hunters typically spend the morning, from dawn until approximately 10:00 a.m., alongside their mentors, hunting, scouting, learning, and getting to know one another.
After the morning hunt, everyone returns to camp for lunch. Afternoons are more flexible, giving hunters and mentors time to relax, play games, participate in friendly competitions, spend time around camp, or simply enjoy one another’s company.
On select days, mission-driven organizations and programs may join us at camp to share resources and opportunities that could benefit veterans after they return home.
Hunters head back into the field for the evening hunt before returning to camp for dinner. Evenings are often the heart of camp, sharing stories, laughing, relaxing, and gathering around the fire.
The hunt brings veterans together, but the relationships built along the way are the true purpose of Timber and Valor.
Family Weekend
Military transition, PTSD, isolation, and other challenges rarely affect only one person. They impact spouses, significant others, children, and the entire family.
That is why Family Weekend is an important part of our Hunt Camps. Spouses, significant others, and children have opportunities to experience Timber and Valor firsthand, connect with the community, and participate in the healing process alongside their veteran.
Our inaugural Archery Hunt Camp will include designated family days. As Timber and Valor grows, we plan to continue offering Family Weekends and explore additional outdoor experiences and gatherings that help veterans and their families reconnect.
Timber and Valor is not simply about sending veterans on hunting trips.
Hunting is the vehicle we use to bring veterans together. The greater mission is to create lasting connection, rebuild purpose, strengthen families, and develop a community that continues long after veterans leave Montana.
